Call for Applications
The Vilnius Yiddish Institute in Vilnius, Lithuania, in cooperation with the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies of United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Washington, D.C., announces the 2018 summer school Holocaust History in Lithuania for university junior faculty members, doctoral and MA students. The summer school is interdisciplinary and open to faculty and graduate students from various disciplines who are interested in conducting research or teaching courses in the history of Holocaust at the university level.
The 2018 summer school will strengthen participants’ backgrounds in Holocaust studies, and include discussion of methodology, historiography, state of the field and new directions of the Holocaust research, and ensure a firm scholarly grounding for Holocaust courses. The summer school will consist of presentations that will incorporate an overview of Holocaust history in Lithuania.
Summer school applicants must be affiliated with higher educational institutions in Lithuania. Applications must include: (1) a curriculum vitae; (2) a statement of specific interest and needs in strengthening his or her background in the Holocaust history for the purpose of improving teaching or research (700 – 1000 words).
The organizers will provide accommodation and meals for the duration of the seminar.
Applications must be received in electronic form (doc or pdf) no later than 30 April 2018. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

2017 - 01 - 25Meeting with Prof. Antony Polonsky on the 26th of January In commemoration of the Holocaust Remembrance Day, Lithuanian Jewish Community organizes a meeting and discussion with Prof. Antony Polonsky, the Albert Abramson Professor of Holocaust Studies at Brandeis, chief historian of the Musuem of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw. VYI’s Director Sarunas Liekis will be moderator of the discussion “The History of the Jews in Lithuania, Poland and Russia”. The discussion will be held on the 26th of January at 18:00, in the Lithuanian Jewish Community, Pylimo str. 4. Everyone is welcome!
